Everything you need to sign with confidence — and a direct line to a human when you'd rather just ask.
01
Security & privacy
The short version: your documents stay on your device. Here is exactly what that means.
The free signer never uploads your document
Signing in the browser happens entirely on your computer. The file is opened, signed and saved locally — it is never sent to a server, and we keep no copy.
The desktop app works offline
After the one-time license activation, Pro Desktop needs no internet at all. Documents, signatures and history live only in folders on your machine.
AI detection is optional and uses your own key
If you add an OpenAI or Anthropic key, page images are sent from your computer straight to that provider — never through our servers. Without a key, signature spots are found locally, and nothing leaves your machine.
Your API key is stored encrypted
The desktop app hands your provider key to the operating system's secure storage (Keychain on macOS, DPAPI on Windows). It is never shown again after you save it and never reaches the app's interface.
Account data is locked to your account
For features that need an account, storage is private and every row is protected by database-level rules so only you can read yours. Downloads use short-lived signed links that expire in minutes.
License keys are stored hashed
We keep only a fingerprint of your key, never the key itself — which is also why we can't read it back to you if you lose it (see below).

Download & installation
After your purchase, sign in and open the Desktop app section of your dashboard to download the installer for your system.
Windows
- 01
Download the installer
Get SignSimplifiedPro-Setup.exe from the Desktop app section of your dashboard.
- 02
Run it
Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen because the app is not code-signed yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
- 03
Open the app and activate
Paste the license key from your purchase email on the first screen.
macOS
- 01
Download the disk image
Get SignSimplifiedPro.dmg from the Desktop app section of your dashboard and open it.
- 02
Drag it to Applications
Then, for the first launch only, right-click the app and choose Open — macOS asks for confirmation because the app is not notarized yet.
- 03
Open the app and activate
Paste the license key from your purchase email on the first screen.
Those warnings are about code signing, not about the app being unsafe. Only ever install the file you downloaded from your own dashboard.

Licenses & activation
Where your key comes from
The moment your payment goes through we email your license key. It looks like SSPRO-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Keep that email — it is the only copy of the full key.
Activating an installation
Each install asks for the key once and checks it online. From then on the app verifies the activation itself and keeps working with no internet, forever.
Using it on several computers
Your license is not limited to one machine — activate it on every computer you use. Your dashboard lists each activation with the device and the date, so you can see where the license is in use.
Reinstalling or lost keys
Reinstalling or moving to a new computer just means activating again with the same key. If you have lost the key we cannot read it back to you — it is stored hashed — so write to us and we will issue you a new one.

Common questions
Does my document ever leave my computer?+
No. Both the free browser signer and the desktop app open, sign and save documents locally. The only thing that ever travels is a page image sent to your own AI provider, and only if you deliberately turn on AI detection with your own key.
Which files can I sign, and how big can they be?+
PDF, PNG and JPEG everywhere, plus best-effort DOCX preview in the browser. The browser accepts files up to 25 MB; the desktop app handles up to 200 MB.
Where do my signed files end up?+
Signed documents are saved next to your originals' name with _signed added, into the folder you pick in Settings — by default a Sign Simplified folder in your Documents. The History page lists everything you have signed and opens any file in its folder.
Do I need an internet connection?+
Only once, to activate your license. After that the desktop app works completely offline. Internet is needed again only if you use AI signature detection.
The AI didn't find where to sign. What now?+
The app first looks for signature lines and keywords locally, and only asks the AI when a document has no readable text — a scan, typically. Check that your API key is saved in Settings, and remember you can always place a signature by hand in the single-document view.
Can I use the same signatures in the browser and in the app?+
Yes. Export your signatures to a file from either place and import that same file in the other — the format is shared.
Is a signature made this way legally valid?+
In most countries an electronic signature is valid for everyday agreements, and the app keeps a record of when each document was signed. Some documents — wills, certain property deeds — still require paper or a notary.
I have a question about billing or my purchase+
Write to us with the email address you used at checkout and we will sort it out.

To get a useful answer faster, mention:
- Whether you were using the browser or the desktop app
- Your operating system (for example Windows 11 or macOS 15)
- What you were doing and what happened instead
- The last four characters of your license key, if it is about Pro Desktop
Please don't attach confidential documents — a screenshot with sensitive parts blacked out is usually enough.
